Former JI amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad passes away at 74

Islamabad: Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Pakistan’s prominent religious scholar and former amir (president) of Jamaat-e-Islami, has passed away in Islamabad.

He was being treated at Islamabad’s F-10 hospital.

His body would be shifted to his ancestral town Ziarat Kaka Sahib, District Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Fajar prayers.

He was the third amir of the Jamaat-i-Islami, believed to be the largest and the most organised religious political party of Pakistan.

Mr Ahmad remained in office from October 7 1987 to March 29, 2009.
