[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ATULLAH: Strong batting partnership of Pakistani skipper Misbah ul Haq and Umar Akmal seemed unfruitful for Green Shirts as Sri Lanka managed for glowing start in the 1st ODI of Asia Cup today.
Sri Lanka has won the first fight of the Asian event by 12 runs with the prominent bowling blow of Malinga with 5 wickets who didn’t gave much to team in his initial overs.
Pakistani openers gave a reasonable start to their teams as Ahmed Shehzad (28) and Sharjeel Khan (26), however, other batsmen failed to make grip on the match.
Pakistan remain more than capable of a successful chase in the Asia Cup opener as per past trend as responsible Misbah and aggressive Umar took stand on the pitch for long time.
Shahid Afridi was caught by Chandimal due to a hurry shot on ball of Malinga while Umer Gul played an unnecessary stroke leading him to go back towards pavilion.
Sri Lankan cricket team gave rivals Pakistan 297 rums to chase in the opening match of Asia Cup cricket.
Sri Lanka opted to bat first after winning the toss here at Usman Ali Khan stadium and made a total of 296 runs with the help of Lahiru Thirimanne’s century and Kumar Sangakkara’s brilliant batting.
Thirimanne made 102 while Sangakkara socred 67 runs.
Pakistani pacer Umar Gul took 2 wickets.
Pakistani skipper Misbah-ul-Haq said that the wicket is slow and he cannot tell if it will help chase the target or not.
