LAHORE-Atlas Honda Limited has successfully completed the first phase of its expansion project by increasing assembly capacity from the present 750,000 units to 1.
35 million units per year.
The company has already started test production on its new line whilst regular production is expected to commence soon.
It was conveyed that the company and its associated companies will invest over USD 150 million in the current five year investment plan.
This will include investment in plant, machinery, dies, moulds and upcoming new models.
“Last year the company announced the investment plan for the expansion of its motorcycle operations.
From 1st October, we have started trial production and we are on target for the official mass production from 20th October,” said Mr Razi ur Rahman, Atlas Honda’s spokesman while talking to a group of journalists during a visit to the company’s Sheikhupura plant.
He added “that the expansion has generated 5650 direct and indirect jobs in the initial phase.
The company’s mother factory is based out of Sheikhupura, where 1.
2 million motorcycles will be produced whilst its headquarters is based out of the Karachi factory, where an additional 150,000 units production is available.
The visitors were informed that the Karachi factory was first one to be built, in 1964, whilst a second factory was set up in Dhaka in 1969, which was unfortunately lost in 1971 war.
Sheikhupura was the third factory to come on line in 1981.
Subsequently, most of the capacity expansions have taken place in the vicinity of the Sheikhupura factory due to the abundance of land and proximity to the major markets.
Currently, the company locally manufactures 70cc, 100cc and 125 cc bikes in various colours and variations.
Overall, eight local and imported models are available for sale at its dealerships.
With the expansion, the company is planning on launching a series of new bikes in the coming years.
The spokesman further added that “Atlas Honda is a joint venture between Atlas Group and Honda Motor Co.Ltd., Japan.
Over the last 53 years, the Company has enjoyed good success.
With products of the highest quality, state of the art manufacturing facilities, an unparalleled vendor network and the largest number of sale and after sale dealerships , the company is the leading motorcycle player in Pakistan.
The enhanced production will, therefore, certainly help in catering to the current unfulfilled demand for Honda bikes.
Mr Razi Ur Rahman mentioned that the foundation of the company’s progress is guided by the belief in achieving growth through strong local roots.
‘The dedication to manufacturing excellence, human resource fostering, focus on indigenisation and technology transfer is being undertaken with the focus on continuing to be the nation’s ride and the industry’s pride”.
