General Aamir Riaz appointed Chief of General Staff

Lieutenant General Shahid Baig Mirza will serve as Commander Southern Command as Lt General Aamir Riaz has moved up the ladder to Chief of General Staff.

Further promotions and transfers are expected in near future after Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif formally retires on November 29 after completing a three-year tenure.

The development has come in a couple of days after Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif designated Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa as the next army chief while Lieutenant General Zubair Mehmood Hayat was appointed Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
