LAHORE (Staff Report) – The crescent of new Islamic month Shawwal-ul-Mukarram has been sighted in Pakistan and the Muslims will mark the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday (July 6).
Geo News report, while quoting sources, said that the testimonies of moon sighting were received from Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala, Lower Dir, Sanghar and several areas of Balochistan.
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman will make a formal announcement to this effect in a press conference after some time.
Earlier this day, the session of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Lahore for sighting the crescent or otherwise. Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman chaired the meeting.
The meetings of all other Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees were also held at their respective offices. The committees recorded evidence of moon sighting from across the country.
Members of the central and Karachi Ruet-e-Hilal committees, officials of the Met Department and Space, and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) experts were present on the occasion.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that gulf countries, Muslims in Europe and the United States will also celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.
